Shalom Research and Documentation Center
The Shalom research center is a Kenyan NGO project which started in 2002 as part of the Koinonia trust. The Shalom information and technology centre and Diakonia institute were formed under this trust. Shalom operates as a community based library.
The center operates as a social enterprise dealing with different projects aiming to empower street kids. It also aims to reintegrate ex-prisonners by providing a learning environment preparing for university, college or apprentice programs. The center also possess international journals and produce research papers two or three times a year. Their main goal has been to fight crime and promote a learning culture to the community. They also assist children and visitors to access Internet for various research purposes.
They intend to expand their library and introduce new courses such as hospitality and journalism. In fact, on their wish list is a need for hospitality related book such as tourism, hotel management and catering. We believe they could do better with a little support. the library is secure, and they are able to generate some income from photocoping, printing, lending books and typing services.
